The NHL is trying to crackdown on unnecessary blows to the head.
The NHL's Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations, Colin Campbell, had the following memo, obtained by TSN, posted in every NHL dressing room on Friday.
"Recently, we have had two (2) supplemental discipline incidents involving direct elbow blows to the head. This is a play that we have been trying to remove from our game for a number of years. In one case there was no injury and in the other incident the elbowed Player received a concus
General managers will have one extra day to make NHL trades. The league said yesterday it has pushed the trade deadline back to March 4. A high volume of games forced the switch. There are 12 games on the schedule March 3 and only two March 4. The league and NHL Players' Association agreed on the change.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire says he'll return for an eighth season with the team.
Lemaire, who announced his decision in a news release Saturday, has a career record of 500-381-168 over 14 years, including 60-52 in the playoffs.
But with the Wild, he's gone just 11-18 in the post-season. The Wild were ousted in the first round last month by the Colorado Avalanche, culminating what Lemaire called his toughest season as a coach.

St. Paul, MN - Minnesota Wild forward Marian Gaborik underwent minor arthroscopic surgery on his right hip joint on Friday.
The procedure, performed by Dr. Marc J. Philippon at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado, was designed to repair a torn labrum and to relieve some impingement in the hip.
The surgery was described as a success and Gaborik is expected to remain in Colorado for his initial rehabilitation before returning to the Twin Cities in one to two weeks to continue his treatment.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - With the young Minnesota Wild on the ropes, Keith Carney came through just in time.
Carney scored on a slap shot 14 seconds into overtime to lift the Wild to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night, tying the series 1-1 and giving a huge sigh of relief to more than 19,000 towel-waving fans.
